How do I set up social proof?
Basic setup and thresholds
- Social proof can be set-up by our Operations team. We would recommend running it as an AB test. To request the AB test to be set-up please contact our Operations team using this form.
- Select social proof in the 'What kind of A/B test do you want to set up?' dropdown
- You can also request if you want to amend the threshold. By default it is set to 100. The threshold is the minimum amount of rewards that need to have been given out in the previous month for social proof to display. If you want to amend this add it to the 'Description' section of the form
Previewing social proof
- You are able to preview social proof by looking at any of the pages that social proof displays on*. We are looking at the referee register page in this example
-
- Expanding the section will display a preview of what social proof will look like.
- N.B Social proof won't show to customers unless the rewards given out meet the threshold
- Expanding the section will display a preview of what social proof will look like.
FAQs
Metrics
- What is the 'x,xxx rewards given out last month' based on? This is calculated using incented friends for the last calendar month split by locale.
- Why is it split by locale? This is so the customer in a specific country sees an accurate number.
Design & copy
- Is it possible to edit the copy? The copy used by default has been proven to work so we recommend keeping the existing copy. If you do want it to change it then contact our Operations team using this form. We would recommend AB testing the new copy against the old copy.
- Is it possible to change the styling? By default, the styling for social proof will inherit the font from the rest of the design and the colours (background and text) are set to white and black. If you want to change the styling then contact our Operations team using this form.
- Is it possible to change the positioning? The positioning used by default has been proven to work so we recommend keeping the existing positing. If you do want it to change it then contact our Operations team using this form.. We would recommend AB testing the new positioning against the old positioning.
Misc
- Why is social proof shown for the referee only, not the referrer? During testing, it was shown having social proof for the referee drove 10-20% increase in purchase rate. It had no impact on the referrer.
- What pages does social proof show on? Referee register, Fulfil, Fulfil exception - reward already fulfilled, Name search, Name search - no match, name search duplicate, Name search - no match final.
- Which languages does this support? French, Polish, German, Dutch, Italian, Swedish, Norwegian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Arabic, Portuguese and Spanish.
- When I look at the customer journey, I can't see social proof - why is this? It's likely that you did not meet the threshold for social proof to display (the default is 100 rewards given out in the previous calendar month). See 'basic set-up and thresholds' earlier in this article for how to amend the threshold.
- How do I turn off social proof for a specific experiment? You can turn it off for a specific experiment by selecting 'edit details' for the offers in that experiment - see the image below
Navigate to the optimisations tab, uncheck the social proof check box and select save. Repeat this for all offers where you want to turn off social proof
