Does it do anything clever with referrers and referees, or does it only affect referees?
Firstly, referee eligibility tags do NOT affect anyone who is considered gaming.
The following only applies to reward approval:
When you pass us a Referee eligible tag, you are telling us one of several things:
1. If the Referee reward is pending approval, you are saying "this Referee has met our criteria, and you can go ahead and fulfill them". This is most common in the After Purchase case, e.g. a client doesn't want to give out Amazon rewards until they have confirmed the Referee has gone on supply.
2. If the Referee is not pending approval but the Referrer reward does, you are saying "the Referee, introduced by the Referrer, has met our eligibility criteria, and we're happy for you to proceed with rewarding the Referrer. You are saying "the Referee you introduced is good enough for us, go ahead and give the Referrer the reward". This is most common in the Before Purchase case where the Referee has already been given their reward and the Referrer is waiting on a third party voucher.
3. If the Referee AND the Referrer both require approval, we'll only follow the first case (the approval of the Referee) because the setup is basically saying "I want to give formal approval of both separately". An example might be where the Referee gets a 1 month credit on a subscription and the Referrer gets an Amazon reward - the client would expect to automatically approve the former and manually approve the latter. If you don't want this behaviour, they can turn off approval on the Referrer which will default to step 1 above.
