By default, Mention Me tracks traffic through all stages of the referral funnel, and your Client Success Manager will regularly discuss this activity with you. If you’d like to track referral traffic landing on your site alongside your other marketing channels, you can integrate your Google Analytics parameters into Mention Me.
To do this, send your Google Analytics parameters to your Client Success Manager.
Your CSM will add these parameters to all links coming from Mention Me to your site. Here’s an example of the kind of parameter we add:
?utm_source=mentionme
&utm_medium=referral
&utm_campaign=referafriend
There are two places where we link to your site from:
- Your homepage (or a specific product page if you prefer) for potential new customers who click through after claiming their introductory reward
- Emails, for customers who didn’t complete their purchase during their original journey and come back via the referral email.
Tracking Parameters Example
This is how a URL with a full set of tracking parameters would look:
https://www.yoursite.com/refer-a-friend?situation=homepage_header&utm_source=mentionme&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=referafriend
Tracking your promotion points
You can also track your promotion points within the Mention me reporting platform. Click on our article Tracking your promotion points to find out more.
Note: If you ever see any discrepancies between Mention Me and Google Analytics showing different revenue numbers is because Mention Me uses a different attribution model to Google Analytics. GA is based on last click, whereas Mention Me is based on email addresses provided by a referee and then seen in the confirmation page.
One area that definitely won't be reported correctly in GA is Name Share. If I refer you by name (offline), you'll type in the website organically or go via a paid ad on Google then the attribution will look like Organic / Paid Ad according to Google Analytics.
