Social proof is a powerful way to increase trust and drive higher conversion rates in your referral programme, particularly for referees. By displaying how many referral rewards were given out last month, you build instant credibility and encourage referees to complete their purchase.
This guide covers:
- What social proof is and where it appears
- How to set it up and configure thresholds
- Customisation and best practices
- How to preview, test, or disable it
What Is Social Proof for Referees?
Social proof displays the number of rewards issued in the previous calendar month (e.g. “2,417 rewards given out last month”).
It appears on several referee-facing pages, including:
- Referee registration (mobile & desktop)
- Fulfil
- Fulfil exception – reward already fulfilled
- Name search (including: no match, duplicate, and final no match)

Performance
A/B tests show that social proof for referees can increase conversion rates by 10–20%. It does not impact referrer behaviour and is only used for referees.
How to Set Up Social Proof
Step 1: Request Set-Up via Form
- Contact the Operations team using this form.
- Under “What kind of A/B test do you want to set up?”, select Social Proof.
- To adjust the threshold (default: 100 rewards/month), add your request in the “Description” field.
Step 2: Preview & Manage within Dashboard
- To preview social proof, open one of the impacted referee pages from your campaign's customer journey.
- Social proof will only display once the reward threshold has been met.
Best Practice
Run social proof as an A/B test first to measure uplift before rolling it out across all campaigns.
Can I Customise Social Proof?
Yes, but with some guidance:
Copy
- The default copy has been tested and performs well, but you can request changes via the Operations form.
- If changing, we recommend A/B testing the new copy vs. the original.
Styling
- Inherits primary design fonts by default, with a white background and black text.
- You may update background/text colour with a request to the Operations team.
Positioning
- The default position is optimised based on performance tests.
- Custom positioning is possible, but should be A/B tested.

FAQs

This is calculated using incented friends for the last calendar month, split by locale.
Why is it split by locale?
