About this Journey
With this journey, you can remind existing customers (referrers) to use their new coupon codes they have received from introducing a friend to your brand.
By implementing this journey, you can encourage existing customers to help:
- Increase Active Customer Revenue
- Increase Premium Customer Revenue
- Increase Retention
The journey utilises data sent from Mention Me to SFMC through the integration and the Journey Builder functionality of SFMC
Pre-requisites
- An active Mention Me powered referral program that rewards existing customers with a reward
- A Mention Me / SFMC enabled integration
- Knowledge of SFMC AMP Script Variables
Supported channels
Basic workflow
1. An existing customer of your brand gets a coupon when they have introduced a friend to your brand (Email sent by Mention Me).
2. A reminder email (subject to consent) is sent to them to use the coupon if they have not purchased anything yet.
3. Further reminders are sent at different times to encourage the customer to use their coupon if they have not purchased.
Steps to create the journey
- Create a journey with 3 x reminder emails
- Add content to each reminder email
- Test the preview of each email
- Activate the journey
Step 1: Create the journey flow
1. Add an API Event as the Trigger type with Received Referrer reward from Mention Me as the trigger event
2. In Journey Settings, set the Default Email address to be from Entry Source
3. Add a wait period before the email
- Mention Me will send the first email to the referee, and you also want to wait after the subsequent emails to see if they have purchased.
- Suggested wait periods:
- 1st email - 7 days after the event trigger
- 2nd email - 14 days after the 1st email is sent
- 3rd email - 14 days after the 2nd email is sent
If you are unsure of your reward validity period, reach out to your Mention Me CSM or Mention Me support to check the validity period for your campaign.
4. Add in a conditional split to check that the referrer has purchased in the last x days (If you have purchase events flowing into your SFMC)
- You do not want to send the referrer an email to use their coupon if they have already shopped
Step 2: Add content to each email
1. Update the images and styling of your emails to suit your brand
2. Include product recommendations in your emails to increase conversion
3. Under Add content, set the data extension to Received Referrer reward from Mention Me to allow for message personalisation
4. Mention Me has created some default content with suggested variables (for your email subject and email body) to help you formulate the right message.

SFMC variables to add to your journey
All variables can be added to emails in the email editor

Step 3: Test the preview of the email
1. Test the preview of each email in the Preview and Test tab in the Edit Email section
2. Select the Received Referrer reward from Mention Me Data Extension and filter by a customer who matches the trigger criteria.
3. The email will be populated with the relevant event information
Step 4: Activate the journey
1. Once you are happy with the content and have tested the emails, activate the journey
2. Click the Activate button to enable
