Integrating with Shopify and Shopify Plus allows Mention Me to automatically create discount codes for your customers.
To enable the Mention Me discount code integration, set up your discount sets, create a Shopify private app, and follow these steps for each of your Shopify stores.
Set Up Your Discounts
In this example, we’ll create a 20% discount for Referrers. We recommend creating separate Discount Sets for each reward type to keep tracking and configuration clear.
Step 1: Create a New Discount
Go to the Shopify Discounts section and create a new discount.
Step 2: Choose Discount Type
Select "Amount off order" as the discount type.
Note: "Buy X, Get Y" discounts are not supported.
Step 3: Configure Discount Method

Step 4: Configure Discount Value

| Purchase Type | Select based on the offer type (products or entire order) |
Step 5: Leave Eligibility as Default
Step 6: Set Minimum Purchase Requirements
If a minimum purchase amount is set, Mention Me will display it automatically. For minimum quantities, include wording in your message to customers.
Step 7: Configure Maximum Discount Uses
Set the following:
- Limit number of times this discount can be used in total = 1
- Limit to one use per customer
Each user will get a unique, 1-time-use discount code.
Step 8: Optional Settings
Configure additional preferences, such as stacking with other discounts. We recommend leaving the end date unset, as Mention Me will handle this automatically.
Step 9: Save
Review and click Save.
Repeat Steps 1–9 for any other Mention Me reward types.
When Mention Me starts generating codes, Shopify will indicate multiple codes linked to the discount:
Creating a Shopify Private App
You only need to perform this setup once per store.
Step 1–3: Access Custom App Settings
- Go to Settings → Apps and sales channels
- Click Develop apps
- Accept the prompt to allow app development (if shown)
Step 4: Create the App
Click Create an app
Step 5: Enter App Details
- Name it something like Mention Me Discount Codes
- Set an email address that has admin access
Step 6–8: Configure API Scopes
- Go to Configuration → Configure Admin API scopes
- Search for discount
- Set Discounts and Price rules to read and write
Step 9–11: Install App and Reveal Token
- Go to API credentials
- Click Install app and confirm
- Reveal and copy the API token (only visible once)
Note: Copy the token into a secure notes app or password manager.
Final Integration via Mention Me Platform
Step 12:
Go to the Mention Me platform and click Set-up new 3rd Party Provider. Select Shopify from the list of providers.
Step 13:
In the form, enter your Shopify Store Name (subdomain) and the Admin API token.
Step 14:
Contact your Mention Me onboarding or client success manager to inform them the discount sets and Shopify app have been created. They will link the integration to your rewards setup.
