This guide will help you install and configure the Mention Me Shopify App, including steps to set up Product and Brand Referral. You'll learn how to verify your settings, add app extensions, and safely transition from the old to the new Shopify app.
Introduction
The new Mention Me Shopify App allows you to install the Mention Me experience directly into your Shopify store, with Product Referral included for free.
The new Mention Me app is now on the marketplace, allowing you to centralise all Mention Me products in one simple-to-use app with a public install link. Just visit the Mention Me Shopify App page to get started for free.
Installing the app
After visiting the Mention Me Shopify App page, click on the Install button to get started. This may prompt you to log in to your Shopify store, after which you will see the following permission screen.

Configuring Brand Referral
- Open Brand Referral settings in the newly installed Mention Me app.

Verify settings are correct. You can compare to the old app settings page to do this.
a. Go to the old app through the Shopify Apps menu.
- Select the app that starts with “Mention Me” and includes your Store name.
- Check that all the settings on the old app match up with the new app.
Adding the extensions
Follow the steps detailed on Shopify App: Installation to add all the blocks you had with the previous Mention Me app and verify you set them up with the same settings.
Example: Mention Me Checkout Journey
After going to the Checkout Editor as explained on Shopify App: Installation, on the Checkout page you should see the following:
- Click on Add Block.
- Select the Widget from the App without your brand name.
- You will now have two blocks that are repeated on the page.
- Click on both to make sure the settings match.
- (Optional) Remove the widget from the old app. If you are planning on immediately uninstalling the old app, you don’t need to remove the block right away.
You can identify the block as it should be the one higher on the page
Example: Mention Me Refer a Friend Journey - Announcement
For announcements, there’s a limit of 1 block on the Thank You and Order status page, so you will need to remove the block from the old app before adding the new block. The steps are the same as the above example; otherwise, just make sure to note any settings before removing the old block!
- Compare the settings between the old app and new app, and adjust if needed on the new app.
Uninstall the old app
Once the previous steps have been followed and you’ve verified the blocks are working correctly in the Checkout Editor, you can safely uninstall the old app.
