Why should I do this?
When launching your referral programme, you might want to exclude existing customers from being treated as new customers and prevent them from receiving rewards through referrals.
To achieve this, you can upload a list of customer emails that will automatically exclude those customers from receiving new customer rewards. However, they can still enrol as referrers and refer their friends.
We generally recommend using data covering the last 12 months of your trading activity. The data requirements are outlined in the Data Processing Agreement (DPA) included in your contract.
What does this do?
After uploading your customer data, only new customers—those who have not made a purchase yet—will be eligible for referral rewards. Existing customers attempting to claim new customer discounts or offers will see a message like this:
What do I need to do?
Export data from your site / CRM
Create or export a CSV file containing email addresses for the period you choose (usually 12 months).
The file should have one column with a header row. No additional columns or data are necessary.
| Field | Field type | Example of valid data |
|---|---|---|
| Customer Email | Email / hashed email** | name@xyz.com |
**The emails can be un-hashed (i.e. `name@xyz.com`), or hashed - see here for details on how to hash emails.
