How contacts are created in Dotdigital by Mention Me
Here are the guidelines for sending contact information to Dotdigital:
- Mention Me will first verify if the customer already exists (using their email as the identifier).
- If the customer does not exist in your Dotdigital account, a new contact will be created.
- If the customer does exist in your Dotdigital account, the existing contact will be updated with Mention Me specific fields only.
Customer consent
You have the option to capture customer opt-in consent during your Mention Me customer journey, and this information will be sent directly to Dotdigital without needing to download CSV files.
If a customer agrees to receive your newsletter, whether through the Mention Me referee journey or a newsletter post-purchase overlay, the opt-in request will be automatically forwarded to Dotdigital.
Customers who have consented to receive your newsletter will be automatically subscribed to the email channel as part of the integration and will be added to a list or address book as specified during the installation setup.
Customers who have not consented to receive your newsletter will still be sent to Dotdigital but they will be Unsubscribed to the email channel as part of the integration. Their information will be stored in Dotdigital but you won't be able to search for them until they have subscribed to email via another source.
Additionally, a dedicated Mention Me Insight data collection (mm-marketing_consent) will be linked to the customer profile in Dotdigital, indicating that the customer has opted into your newsletter through Mention Me.
Within the Mention Me consent collection, you can see where the consent originated in the Mention Me journey. This will be displayed in the content_source field with the following options:
- referee-registration = This is from the referee journey when a prospective customer opts in to your newsletter.
- newsletter-signup = This is from a post-purchase journey if a customer chooses to opt in to your newsletter for a non-referrer offer (if applicable).
Note: A customer can also consent to receive your newsletter through other channels outside of Mention Me, so Mention Me may not be the sole source of truth for all your consent.
