How contacts are created in Emarsys by Mention Me
The following rules will apply when sending the contact information to Emarsys:
- Mention Me will first check to see if the customer already exists
- If the customer does not exist on your Emarsys instance, then a new contact will be created
- If the customer does exist on your Emarsys instance, then the existing contact will be updated with only Mention Me specific fields
Customer opt-ins
When a customer opts into your newsletter either via the referee journey or via a newsletter post-purchase overlay, the opt-in request will automatically be sent to Emarsys and the following will happen:

- Emarsys opt-in property set
- Set to True only if they opt-in to your newsletter on registration or via post-purchase
- If they do not opt-in, then the opt-in value will not be set (null)
- This will not be set for new Referrers that are created
- Opted-in to marketing consent event sent
- A dedicated external event (mm:marketing_opt_in) for tracking opt-ins is sent
- A dedicated external event (mm:marketing_opt_in) for tracking opt-ins is sent
- Emarsys opt-in property set
Customer profile attributes
The following contact information is created/updated on the Emarsys platform and can be seen on the Emarsys contacts page:
System fields - Mention Me will only update the specific system fields as specified below
Custom fields - Mention Me will create the custom contact fields on integration initiation and they will be updated when the relevant Mention Me data is sent to Emarsys
